Welcome! It seems some introductions are in order. We are Cogitare Magazine, a student publication sponsored by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute seeking to thoughtfully discuss ideas surrounding the intersection of religion, politics, and culture.
Our aim is to be thoughtful; hence, the name Cogitare, meaning “to think” in Latin.
And for clarification, it is pronounced coh-gee-tar-ay. And yes, it is the “classical” pronunciation for all you Latin nerds.
Who are we?
We are a couple of Grove City College students interested in the intersection of these conservative and religious ideas: two English majors, one Political Science, and not forgetting, of course, our “finance guy.”
Last year, during the wee hours of the morning in a dormitory lounge, Emily and Fiona pondered the idea of creating a conservative magazine at Grove City College, which surprisingly had no such publication previously. We believed in creating a platform for the conversations about religion, politics, and culture that were already everyday occurrences on our campus.
What are we trying to do?
Cogitare Magazine holistically explores and defends the sincerest ideas of the Judeo-Christian, conservative movement, among other principles that are central to the soul’s flourishing. We hold to the acknowledgment that in all things, the relationships between Man and God, and Man and community are fundamental. We wish to promote truthful and charitable discussions that exemplify these values.
What are we trying to say?
We write on things concerning community, God, conservatism, and tradition. These topics are broad, but much of our everyday life, that are worth contemplation. Above all, we stand for originality, thoughtfulness, and truth-seeking.
Care to join us?
If you desire to add to our discussion, please send us pitches or 500-750 word articles at cogitaremag@gmail.com. We wish to publish only that which we consider substantive and thoughtful.
We are sincerely grateful for our readers and supporters. By God’s grace, we hope to communicate these ideas articulately and charitably.
Sincerely,
Emily Burke, Editor-in-Chief
Fiona Lacey, Managing Editor
Michael Love, Executive Editor
Joe Palaski, Financial Manager
